The Mixed Media Card Challenge #3 {Autumn Colors}

Happy September, everyone! Are you ready for The Mixed Media Card Challenge #3? We're so looking forward to seeing your cards. As always, our theme this month is open to interpretation. Take your cue from "autumn colors." Try creating a mixed media card that incorporates either metal or leaves or both! Go beyond your inks and stamps...and be as messy or clean as your creative muse tells you (or lets you!) ;o)

1. Create a mixed media CARD based on the theme, with or without the optional element.
2. Display the challenge graphic on your blog post and link back to this challenge post.
3. You may enter as many times as you want, as long as each entry is different.
4. You may combine a maximum of 7 challenges (6 other challenges plus ours).
5. Submit your projects by September 25, 11:55 p.m. PDT (GMT -700).
6. We'll announce the winner and highlights on September 30.

This month's challenge is pretty special too because we've got a fabulous sponsor: Add a Little Dazzle!
"We specialize in an exclusive line of craft metal sheets that helps you take your crafting to the next level. Whether you are a seasoned or new crafter, our craft metal sheets will help you create unique projects that will make you stand out among the crowd. Are you ready to take your crafting to the next level? Add a Little Dazzle Craft Metal Sheets will help you turn the ordinary into the extraordinary."

Add A Little Dazzle is offering a $15 gift certificate to use towards products in the AALD Boutique.

We will randomly pick a winner of the gift certificate from all the entries that have the optional element (metal or leaves or both). So if you want a shot at this month's prize, create a mixed media card that has metal (craft metal sheet or any kind of metal) or leaves or both.

So how did we interpret the theme? Take a look below. We've incorporated in our mixed media cards the craft metal sheets that our sponsor has generously provided. We hope they inspire you!

Die cut some white metal from Add A Little Dazzle to make the tree. Colored the tree with various alcohol ink colors, embossed background, colored with distress inks, and embossed sentiment.

This card showcases how different inks can be unified into one design. I used emboss resist to build the card base and alcohol inks for those bright leaves.

Background colored with yellow, green, orange, red, and brown Distress inks. Decorated with stamps, water splashes, and embossed images. Edges heat embossed with Distress Powder to create a rusty effect. Main image stamped on white heavy office paper, painted with watercolors and inks.

Stamped background with embossing folder and added texture and stamps. Die cut metal foliage and sentiment and tooled all pieces for added texture. Added alcohol inked butterfly.

Distress inked edges on DP and tree. Leaves are die & Silhouette cuts, coloured with dye-na-flow, lumiere and liquid pearls. Stitched border for extra texture

Sponged edges on stamped panel, crackle paint on stamped Art Parts Stem, die cut metal leaves pounced with Distress Paint, scattering of sequins, twine bow.

Panel has been made by lifting off layers of paint with water on a base of mesh type ribbon. Metal leaves are Silhouette cut, one of them has pale yellow paint.

Sponging through leaf stencil and over-stamped with script on left side; embossing paste over second stencil on right side. Die-cut copper metal leaves pounced with alcohol inks.

Embossing folder with Dark Chocolate Add A Little Dazzle metal sheet, remove colour on raised leaves, then add colour with Liquid Pearl, vellum die-cut flag Walter and Winnie sentiment heat embossing in Copper.

Inking and stenciling on PP through masks cut with dies. Heat embossing.

Stencils and distress inks, light modeling paste with punchinella. Metal leaves
cut out on Big Shot, embossed and added Distress Paints.

Stamped leaf background combined with dry embossed and alcohol inked metal background piece. Chipboard leaf with buttons as embellishment.

Embossed and sanded craft metal sheet for the background; panels created by applying gesso, Gelatos, and stamps, then distressing and inking the edges; leaves die cut from AALD craft metal sheet and colored with various alcohol inks; added button, twine, and burlap ribbon for texture.

Metal sheet (leaves), Distress inks, Distress Stain, Alcohol inks, Stencil, pen
